Baghdad in the Stone Age

Here is an article from Newsweek that I find very sad.

City in a Time Warp War is pushing Baghdad out of the 21st century and back to a bygone age of ferrymen, midwives, donkey drivers and shepherds.

This is the fruit of Bush's naive belief that everyone wants Western freedom.

When will we own up to the fact that homo sapiens is an animal? Individuals can rise above the norm of the species. But most humans never truly exist. They are born. They eat, poop, and reproduce. Then they die. Oh, and the humans who are most animal kill those who want to exist.

Most people don't want to be created in the image of God.

Perhaps it is naive to think that creating man in God's image is even possible...so, it is a question of what is of most importance to man..."economic freedom", "national freedom" or "personal freedom" and how do those relate?
Are we made if God's image by "civilizing" man (giving "law") or is man "innately endowed" with God's image?
What I hear you saying is that man is conditioned by his environment such that he is "determined"...and that he would not choose "Western freedom"...perhaps this is so...
I don't see any way out of the "norm" of "survival for the fittest"...as we do not live in a perfect world..I guess it is a matter of "choosing" what or where our values and commitments will be.

I was just reading some statistics last night (and I know statistics can be presented to support any side), but, it stated that if all Americans limited their "consumption" of food to the barest minimum, then there would still not be enough food for everyone to have enough...so the question is with limited resources, how do we distribute "justice"...can we make a "just determination" about the greatest good for the greatest number (limiting, of course, the choices of another for that good, i.e. "education")?
And what about our health regulations for restuarants that prohibit the distribution of "left-overs" to the homeless or poor...Should we seek to change those laws?

As I have stated to you before, I am committed to freedom...Freedom is ONLY guarunteed with laws that protect personal freedom....such as our government...
Political freedom is mandantory for man made in God image. This is a call to ALL BELIEVERS, but some have a more specified "call" to it. I so resonate with the "cause"...
I am watching an organization "Freedom Now" that has helped in the release of a Chinese prisoner...America, with all her faults, is still the greatest country there is!
So, in regards to "Western freedom", I cannot see how any human being could not if given the opportunity want "FREEDOM"..possibly people that have not experienced a free society may have adjustments, but I do not believe that people would not "flourish" better in a free society....

Hi, Angie, I haven't had any time to blog since Monday!

I liken the condition of many people in the world to battered wife syndrome. Of course the wife would be better off to get out of the house and away from her abuser. But that often takes intervention and a lot of counseling.

So I completely agree that freedom should be best for everyone. But I think most of the world needs intensive therapy! I don't think we have done hardly any of that in conjunction with our approach to Iraq.

Bush was trying to say a couple days ago that history will vindicate him and that Iraq will turn out to be a proud legacy. Let's wait and see what the history books say after Karl Rove is too old and decrepit to spin anything.

Then I'll be glad to eat my words if the truth shows them wrong!

I like you analogy...I know that Iraq is a quadmire, but again we have to take all of the information that was available to us at the time after 9/11.(And admit that though we live in a "free society", we DO NOT have ALL the information...so we have to "trust government" and ask questions, which are now being asked.)...Politics does NOT always give a nice, easy and controllable outcome...we deal with people, culture, and our own political lives...as politicians...We have not been informed as to the in's and out's of Iraq...and so, we must continue to think, ask questions, petition, or anything else that is expedient for the cause of freedom...That means that we don't "look the other way" or "act naively" in the face of evil...And it means that we must be informed which I'm afraid most of the people are not...(Most people don't even "read"!)
P.S. Angie said something about coming to visit us at one point. You know you are always "welcome"...

Random FYI for Angie,

I think there are some "good samaritan" laws in some states (Indiana, included, if my memeory serves me right) that give legal protection to eating establishments that donate food.

For our charity, we sign a "hold harmless agreement" when we go to Wal-Mart's mega-factory to pick up their leftover potato chips and marshmallows (literally, tons and tons of marshmallows...).
